Laptop 4GB – Where To Buy The Best?
Avoid misery, Learn how to tell which laptops are good value and which you should avoid! Laptop 4Gb, Dual Core Laptops, Quad Core, USB2.0, HDMI Cables, SATA, Firewire, GFX cards.. HELP!… You just want a laptop that’s fast and won’t stutter while you download videos of cats playing piano. This is a very quick guide to help you buy high quality at a reasonable price:
Laptop Processor – Dual Core, Tri Core, Quad Core+
The processor is the brain of the laptop, if you have a laptop with 2 or more cores these will generally be faster than single core computers. (Well Duh!) How much faster exactly? Not twice as fast, in fact most applications are designed to work with a single core processor so most of that extra power isn’t utilized. My pick I use my laptops for mostly gaming so I’m going to choose quad core.
Laptop RAM – 2GB, 3GB, 4GB or more?
If you are using your laptop for simple web browsing, minimal word processing and watching the occasional movie you probably don’t need more than 2Gb of ram for now… However if you want your laptop to last 3-4 years OR if you will be doing any programming, playing games etc its best to get a laptop with 4gb of ram. My pick Laptop 4Gb ram, Quad Core
Laptop GFX
The most important factor when deciding which graphics cards to get (GFX) is if it’s dedicated or uses shared ram. Dedicated gfx cards have their own on-board ram which make them considerably faster than non-dedicated. 256mb is the standard today for basic computers, used for web browsing, watching videos etc but if you want to play games you should be looking for at least 512mb dedicated ram. This will make sure your video games run smoothly for years to come. My laptop 4gb, Quad core & 512mb dedicated gfx

Laptop HDD
Most laptops now ship with SATA drives these are much faster than the standard IDE drives of recent years, 250gb should leave you plenty of space for movie downloads, games and family photographs. If you use all this space up you can buy a cheap portable drive later quite cheaply ($50 for 500Gb storage). I choose 250gb as a minimum. My laptop 4gb, Quad core, 512mb dedicated gfx + 250gb Sata drive.
Laptop Screen
If you will be lugging your laptop around daily don’t get anything larger than a 15″ screen unless you are built like robot cop, that 17″ widescreen baby will get heavy very quickly. If you’ll be using your laptop mostly at home then splash out on a 17″ widescreen! And yes.. 17 inch all the way for me!
Laptop Battery Life
A quick standard: 6-Cell batteries are only good for 2-3 hours max. 9-cell or 12-cell offer up to 6-8 hours of working time but laptop batteries die quickly especially if you are constantly being charged. My advice is to grab a cheap battery now + a cheap spare later if you need it. Another tip is to reduce the screen brightness when you are using battery time to extend your battery life. Taking my own advice I’m going to get a 6-cell battery now and another later if I need one.
Where to buy good value laptops?
I can tell you where NOT to buy good laptops… Don’t ever buy on the high street or from PC world, your local tescos or even wal-mart. These places regularly have masses of out of date stock which is pushed out to the uneducated customers at inflated prices.
